Basic Rules, Tips, and Guidelines:
  1. Play nice. Don't attack people, harass people, insult people, be just plain mean to people, or otherwise cause trouble with other members. More details below.

  2. Adhere to our spoiler policies. They're different than on other boards, so be sure to read them carefully. Also, don't use quote tags inside spoiler tags (the reason is explained in the spoiler policies page).

  3. DON'T TYPE ALL IN CAPS. It's an internet no-no and will annoy people greatly.

  4. Don't title your posts with vague subjects such as "Everyone read this!" They won't. Be descriptive.

  5. Please consider previewing your posts, especially if you use any markup, and more especially if you use spoiler tags. Previewing will prevent many an error, and therefore save you from looking silly, and save the moderators from having to clean up after you.

  6. If your post is not about Buffy or Angel, please tick the "Off Topic" box before submitting it. (More info on this here.)

  7. Don't put a picture in your profile that isn't on a site you own. (Unless it's a picture we uploaded to our server for you, or unless it's from a profile pic site intended for that exact purpose). Please read this page for instructions on what to do when you find a picture you want for your profile.

  8. Don't register multiple usernames, try to impersonate someone, or otherwise deceive people. If you have a legitimate reason for needing to develop a "new persona," your first step is to contact me (Jamie Marie) at .

  9. Don't go on what we call "posting sprees," posting an excessive amount of posts within a short period of time. While there is no official, numerical definition as to what constitutes a posting spree, we know it when we see it. Basically, don't post unless you have something to say.

  10. On a related note, even if you're not posting a lot of posts, don't post meaningless posts just for the sake of posting. Again, there's no official definition, but an example would be if you consistently make very brief replies such as "I disagree" or "Nice sig," or if you start threads with posts such as, "I like Buffy."

  11. Don't make a post and expect a ton of replies right away. This is a message board, not a chat room. It may take quite a while before you get any replies, or you may not get any at all. While this is unfortunate, it shouldn't be taken personally and you shouldn't throw a tantrum about it. Also, if a day or so has gone by and you feel the need to try another attempt at gaining replies, do not make the same (or similar) post again. You can reply to your original post to bring it up to the top of the list again (but don't abuse this - it should be done no more than once), and/or you can edit the subject to try to make it more appealing. (Click here for instructions on editing a post.)

  12. Know who the admin and moderators are. That way you won't be startled if they edit a post of yours, point out a rule that you've broken, etc. The administrator is me, Jamie Marie. You can spot me by my purple username and Administrator flag. The moderators are bettie, Boo, Del, Kinitawowi, and Soupytwist. You can spot them by their green usernames and Moderator flags.   13. Don't post full articles, interviews, or other content from other websites or publications. (For example: Articles about Buffy or Angel or the cast and crew members thereof, interviews with the cast and crew members of the shows, articles from news websites.) Posting such materials without permission violates copyright laws. See below for what to do instead, and for what to do if you do have permission.

  14. Not to be rude, but if for whatever reason you don't like it here, do everyone (yourself included) a favor and simply don't hang out here. We have low patience for people who complain about the rules, the people, the off topic posts, or what have you, because we figure: If you don't like it here, then why are you here? No animosity is intended, and we hope it isn't on your end, either. Not every community is right for every person, and if this one doesn't suit you, you can probably find one elsewhere more to your liking. If you insist on staying and your distaste is obvious and affects our environment and/or our members, we'll have to ask you to leave.

About This Community:

This is an interesting community, the kind that can perhaps only be found on the internet. There are all varieties of people here, and almost all of them get along quite well. You will find quite a wide range of interesting posts, many of them Buffy-related, but many of them not. We're a very fun-loving group, and enjoying yourself here is a requirement.

As you will find, we also have some rules. These rules help us to maintain the sort of community that we have. Some other message boards may not have or enforce such rules, but we take pride in the quality of this board and its contents and we strive to maintain that quality. At the very least, make sure you read this entire page, as well as the information about spoiler rules, and the information about Off Topic posts (here and here).

You will find that I (Jamie Marie) and the moderators heavily participate in these boards. We do our best to read as many posts as possible. We try to keep some semblance of order and organization while still maintaining a fun and laid back community (and thus far, we feel we've succeeded quite well), we participate in conversations, and we're always available to help out when asked or when we see that it's needed. We will often reply to your posts or send you a private message if you've made some "mistake" (for example, using the spoiler tags incorrectly), or if you seem to have trouble with one or more of the rules. This does not mean that we don't like you, we are not trying to insult you, and you should not take offense to it. We're just doing our job. Other users may try to help you out, too, and the same goes for them. Don't be rude. If you feel that we or other users are insulting you in some way, we suggest that you step back and take a break for at least a few minutes. Then come back and read the post objectively, and you will probably realize that no offense was intended. To be frank (you'll find that happens often, too), if you're especially sensitive to help and have a tendency to perceive it as an insult of some sort, then this may not be the right place for you. If you can handle or learn to handle a little help here and there, then we'll all get along fine.

What kind of "government" runs this place? The forums are run by myself, Jamie Marie, the webmaster of and the administrator of the forums. I have a team of moderators who I depend on greatly to keep things running smoothly. We also depend on a certain amount of self-policing among the members, and take their opinions into account when feasible. The moderators are enabled to make many decisions on their own, and their input, as well as user input, is often weighed greatly. So, while there is a healthy sprinkling of democracy at work, in the end, I do have the final say on all administrative decisions, and I wasn't voted in, so it would not be inaccurate to call it a (benevolent) dictatorship or a monocracy.

These forums are provided to allow Buffy fans to interact with each other in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. If you discover a posting which violates these terms, please please report it via PM to Jamie Marie or a moderator, or send an email to Jamie Marie at . Treatment of Other Members:

You agree to treat all other members with reasonable respect and politeness. Specifically, you agree not to harass, attack, insult, or otherwise be mean to other members. We don't expect you to like everyone, and we understand that sometimes people just rub each other the wrong way. But as the saying goes, if you don't have anything nice (or neutral) to say, don't say anything at all. Remember, you're not obligated to read or reply to anyone's posts.

Feel free to debate with other users, but do not engage in personal fights or arguments. (Example of acceptable debate: "I disagree with your statement that Dawn is a whiny bitch. I think she's a realistic teenager who adds a lot to the show." Example of unacceptable arguing: "What do you mean, Dawn's a whiny bitch? Are you retarded? Dawn is realistic and great, and if you can't see that, you're either stupid or blind!") Also, do not intentionally try to provoke other members into getting angry, or attacking or insulting you.

Note that it does not matter who "started it" or whether you feel that someone "deserves" your attack/insult/what have you. This isn't first grade. You are responsible for your own actions. For example, if someone calls you a stupid arrogant whore, you do not have permission to respond in the same way. You should promptly alert a moderator to the situation, and if you wish, you may send the person a private message to discuss it (so long as you are not harassing them, viciously attacking them, etc.) If you and another member need to "have it out," do it via private messages. Also, if you do feel that someone is attacking or provoking you, consider stepping back for a while and reading it later before you respond. You may find that you misunderstood the intention, or overreacted.

Note also that you are not prevented from jokingly "insulting" someone who you expect will know that you're joking. (Things like the [wink] icon can help make it clear that you're kidding.) However, do not try to use this to make veiled insults under the pretense that you're kidding. Also, if you have learned that certain members do not "get" this kind of humor or do not take well to it, then do not use it on them.

Basically, just play nice, and treat others how you want to be treated.

Posting Articles, Interviews, and Other Content:

(For example: Articles about Buffy or Angel or the cast and crew members thereof, interviews with the cast and crew members of the shows, articles from news websites or newspapers.) Posting the full body of articles, interviews, and other content from other websites or publications, without permission, violates copyright laws. What you should do instead: Post an excerpt and/or a summary, and provide a link to the full content on the internet. (If it's not on the internet, explain where the full content can be found.) In any case, you must acknowledge the source of the article/interview/content, providing a link when applicable. Helpful information: How to use quote tags (for quoting excerpts) and how to create links (for linking to the source/full content).

Note: If you have permission from the copyright owner to post the full text, you may do so. However, it is your responsibility to provide evidence of authorization. If it's a website that has an "open license" (i.e. they have a policy printed on their website stating that full reprinting is allowed), you must include the URL of that policy in your post. If it's print media with a similar policy, you must include the text of that policy in your post. If you personally requested and received express permission, you must make note of this in your post, mentioning how exactly you received permission (over the phone, email, etc.). (In all cases, you may wish to use the "small" or "smaller" markup tags to put the note in small text at the beginning or end of your post.) Note that the administration reserves the right to ask you for more proof of authorization, and/or to edit or delete your post if we feel, for any reason, that the content is not actually authorized for full reprint. If you do not provide any statement of authorization in your post, the administration will edit or delete your post — it is not our responsibility to chase you around asking if you got authorization; you must proactively say so in your post.

Even when you do have permission to post the full text, you may want to reconsider if it is long. Many readers may not appreciate waiting for the long article to load, and having to scroll past it every time they come into the thread to read replies. Thus, in the cast of long articles, it might be more polite to simply link to it anyway. (Unless the website only archives their articles for a very short time - in that case, the link may not work for very long.)

And remember, whenever you are posting someone else's words, you must make that clear (don't plagiarize). The best way to indicate that you are quoting someone else is to put the quoted text in quote tags. And, of course, you must specify who/what you are quoting.

Deleting Inactive Users:

Usernames will be routinely deleted from the database under the following circumstances:

  1. A user registers, and the password email is bounced back due to an invalid email address. (Example: You register, but typed your email address wrong. I get an "undeliverable" email bounced back to me. Your username may be deleted when I receive said email. You could then register the same name with your correct email address.)

  2. A user registers, and does not log in within one week of the registration date. (Example: You register on March 1st. On March 8th, if you have not yet logged in, your username will be deleted automatically.)

  3. Any username which goes unused (no logins) for one year (365 days) will be deleted automatically. EXCEPTION: If you know in advance that you're going to be away or unable to visit for three months or more, contact me (Jamie Marie) by sending me a private message or email ( ) and let me know. I will happily arrange to save your username for you for a reasonable amount of time.

What constitutes "logging in." All of the aforementioned circumstances depend upon you being logged in when you visit. This doesn't mean you have to post (lurking is fine), and it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to click the "Login" button. If you have cookies enabled, and don't manually log out, you'll be logged in automatically when you return. That's fine. As long as you see, "Welcome, [Your Name]. You have X private message(s)" at the upper right of the Main Index, you're all good. If, on the other hand, you see, "You are not logged in" in that spot, then the system will not know you're visiting, and your username will become subject to the aforementioned rules.

Banning users:

We reserve the right to delete and/or ban users for any reason we see fit, at the administration's discretion. This would generally apply to, for example, users who harass or threaten other users, commit illegal acts, link to pornography or illegal content, abuse the board, consistently or blatantly refuse to follow the rules and guidelines set forth, etc.

Forum Privacy Policy:

A valid email address is required to register. We do not and will not sell, rent, or give away your email address. Unless you put it in your public profile, no one will have access to it besides administrators and moderators. It is used to send you your password when you register, to send you your password again if you should ever forget it, to notify you of replies or private messages if you enable these options, and for the administration to email you with important information if necessary. We will not spam you, and you will not be subscribed to a mailing list. If, for example, the forums were going to be closed for a while, we might email all users a notification.

We also do not and will not sell or share the information you put in your public profile or in messages that you post to the forums. However, it is obviously available for the public to see, so you should not include anything you don't want publicly accessible. By placing any information in your public profile, or revealing any information about yourself in public posts, or in private messages to other users, you absolve and the administration of any and all responsibility for any consequences or results that may arise from doing so. will not disclose your name, email address or any other personal details supplied by you with your registration or other communication except in the following circumstances:
a) You agree that we may pass on your details or disclose your identifying data, other information or content to any law enforcement or regulatory authority in order to comply with their direction or request in regard to legal process,
b) You further agree that we may disclose your identifying data, other information or content to a third party in response to any claim of aggrievement or claim of violation of a third party's rights.

You should be aware that the webmaster (NOT moderators) has the ability to view any private messages you send until the recipient deletes it AND you delete it from your "Outbox." The messages are entered into the database, which is stored on the site server, and obviously the webmaster has access to that database. Your private messages will not be viewed for "fun," but the administration reserves the right to view any of the messages if necessary, as deemed by the administration (i.e. to investigate accusations of harassment, errors, etc.). By using the private messaging system, you accept this condition.

OPTING OUT: If you are registered for our forums, you can request at any time to have your forum registration deleted. You may do so by sending a request via email to Jamie Marie at . This will cause your username and all of your related personal information to be deleted from the database (such as your profile and preferences), including your contact email address, none of which will be saved or used in any way. Note that having your registration deleted does NOT delete any posts or messages you made while registered. If you wish to delete any contents of your posts, you should do so BEFORE requesting to have your registration deleted.

This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. While there is no such thing as "perfect security" on the Internet, we will take all reasonable steps to insure the safety of your personal information. All of the data regarding users, in relation to forum registration, are stored on a server. That server is owned and hosted by, and leased by This server is located in a locked and guarded space and only authorized Rackshack personnel have physical access to it. Only the webmaster, and authorized Rackshack personnel, have remote access to the server and the data stored on it.

Acceptance Of These Terms And Conditions

You agree to make a reasonable effort to use a password that others cannot guess. (You should not use important dates, names of significant others/friends/family/pets, etc.) You agree not to reveal your password to any other person (including significant others, friends, etc.). You shall be responsible for the confidentiality of your password and for all activities that occur from its use. Your username and password are also stored in a cookie on any computer from which you login. If you do not manually logout (by clicking "Logout"), that information will remain on that computer. Should any other person gain access to your account here due to that information remaining on any given computer, you shall be responsible for all activities that occur from its use.

You agree not to attempt to learn or guess the password of any other member, nor try to gain access to any other member's account via any other method.

Please note that no one in the administration can obtain your password. It is encrypted in the database, so even anyone with server access cannot find out what your password is. However, the administrator (NOT moderators) CAN login as you, by clicking a link which logs the administrator into your account without revealing your password. This is rarely used and will not be abused; it is generally only used for troubleshooting technical problems that you may have.

4. Your Use Of The Service

You acknowledge that the Service is a public communication available for public viewing and contributions and that it is not an exclusive or private forum. By your use of the Service you agree that:

You will abide by any and all rules and guidelines set forth by the administration, written or unwritten, which are in existence now, or which are set forth in the future;

You will be responsible for any and all content you post in any form, and to post only content that is relevant to the particular discussion;

You may terminate your membership at any time by notifying the administration via email at . On termination, the administration will delete your username and all of your related personal information (such as your profile and preferences). Note that having your registration deleted does NOT delete any posts or messages you made while registered. If you wish to delete any contents of your posts, you should do so BEFORE requesting to have your registration deleted.
